Octavo 1st edition of the Quadrupeds of North America.
Following the successful publication of Audubon's Imperial Folio edition of the Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America, the Audubon family proceeded to publish the more affordable Octavo edition of the Quadrupeds. Audubon's sons (John Woodhouse and Victor Gifford) used camera lucida to reduce the images on the Imperial Folio Quadrupeds to the octavo size (about 10" x 6 1/2"). The first Octavo edition of the Quadrupeds of North America was published during 1849-1854.
